CIRIP Explores Collaboration with AMCHAM Ghana

The Chartered Institute of Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners (CIRIP) Ghana has held a strategic engagement with the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Ghana to explore opportunities for collaboration in promoting corporate restructuring and insolvency practice within Ghana’s business environment.

The meeting took place on 11th March 2026 at the AMCHAM offices in East Legon. CIRIP’s delegation was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. George N. Owodo, accompanied by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Hanson, and the Executive Secretary, Mrs. Petrina Quaye. The AMCHAM team was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Madam Doris Kafui Afanyedey, with support from senior management.

During the interaction, AMCHAM provided an overview of its advocacy‑driven mandate, sector committee structure, and business support initiatives for American and multinational companies operating in Ghana. Plans to establish a Trade Services Desk to assist businesses entering the Ghanaian market were also highlighted.

CIRIP, in turn, presented its statutory mandate and Ghana’s reformed restructuring and insolvency framework, emphasizing the shift from liquidation‑focused processes to modern business rescue mechanisms under recent legislative reforms. The Institute outlined its role in regulating and building capacity among multidisciplinary professionals involved in corporate recovery.

Discussions also addressed challenges such as limited awareness of restructuring options among businesses and difficulties in securing post‑commencement financing for distressed but viable companies. Both institutions agreed on the importance of early intervention and practical support to sustain businesses.

The meeting identified potential areas of collaboration, including joint educational programmes, advisory support for multinational companies, and increased engagement with AMCHAM’s membership.

Both CIRIP and AMCHAM expressed commitment to continued engagement aimed at strengthening corporate sustainability and improving Ghana’s business environment.
