CIRIP President Hosts Luncheon for Newly Elected Governing Council Members

The President of the Chartered Institute of Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners (CIRIP Ghana), Mr. Felix Addo, hosted a luncheon on 7th January 2026 at the Marriott Hotel to welcome newly elected members of the Institute’s Governing Council.

The informal engagement brought together key members of the Council and Secretariat, including Vice-President Hon. Viclie Bright, Council Member Gertrude Amorkor Armah, Council Member Kenneth Ghartey, Executive Secretary Petrina Quaye, and Chief Operating Officer Emmanuel Hanson.

The luncheon, which marked the first engagement with the newly elected Council under the CIRIP Act, 2024 (Act 1117), was designed to foster familiarity, build cohesion, and provide strategic direction ahead of the formal inauguration of the Council.

A New Chapter for CIRIP Governance

In his remarks, the President congratulated the Council members on their election, describing it as a significant milestone in the Institute’s evolution into a fully-fledged statutory body. He noted that the newly elected Council would play a critical role in shaping CIRIP’s institutional development during its formative years under the new legal framework.

Although formal inauguration is pending the completion of statutory appointments, the President indicated that the Council would operate in an interim capacity to ensure continuity in the Institute’s work.

Strategic Direction and Institutional Priorities

The President highlighted the Institute’s draft five-year strategic plan, developed in collaboration with stakeholders and coordinated by PwC, as a key guiding document. Council members were encouraged to review and refine the plan, which is expected to steer CIRIP’s growth and impact over the coming years.

He also briefed members on ongoing engagements with the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC), noting efforts to clarify institutional mandates and strengthen collaboration through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding.

Regulatory and Professional Development Issues

Discussions at the luncheon addressed concerns relating to licensing and renewal processes for insolvency practitioners. The President emphasized the need for proper sequencing of regulatory actions, noting that policy direction in these areas would ultimately rest with the fully constituted Governing Council.

Education and professional training were also identified as central to CIRIP’s mandate. Plans to collaborate with universities and develop practitioner-led programmes were highlighted, with a strong emphasis on building expertise in business rescue and corporate restructuring.

Strengthening Institutional Capacity

The meeting also provided updates on operational developments within the Secretariat, including the Institute’s recent relocation and ongoing efforts to strengthen staffing capacity.

Financial sustainability emerged as a key priority, with the President noting the need to enhance revenue streams through membership engagement, training programmes, and strategic partnerships.

Policy Advocacy and Industry Engagement

CIRIP’s ongoing policy advocacy efforts were also discussed, particularly in relation to improving access to finance for distressed but viable businesses. The President highlighted the need for regulatory flexibility to support business recovery and strengthen Ghana’s restructuring ecosystem.

Council members were further encouraged to enhance the Institute’s visibility through active participation in professional and industry platforms.

Looking Ahead

In closing, the President underscored the importance of collective commitment and strategic focus as CIRIP transitions into its next phase of development. He expressed confidence that, despite existing challenges, the Institute is well-positioned to achieve significant impact within Ghana’s corporate and financial landscape.

The luncheon concluded with a shared sense of purpose and readiness among Council members to contribute to CIRIP’s continued growth and institutional strengthening.
